The ITB Berlin, the largest tourist fair in the world, canceled by the coronavirus

Messe Berlin, organizer of fairs and exhibitions in the German capital, has decided to cancel the celebration of the Berlin Tourism Fair (ITB Berlin), which was scheduled to be held between March 4 and 8, due to the continuous expansion of the coronavirus in Europe.

The health authorities had required Messe Berlin to verify that the exhibitors did not come from high-risk regions of the viral outbreak. The organizer of fairs could not carry out this type of checks, so the event has been canceled.

ITB Berlin is the largest tourism fair in the world. For this year’s edition they planned to attend more than 10,000 exhibitors from 180 countries. «We take the health and safety of all our guests, exhibitors and employees very seriously,» said Messe Berlin CEO Christian Göke.

On his side, the director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has reported that the risk of spreading the new coronavirus has been raised to «very high», following the outbreak cases that have been detected in recent days in countries like Italy or Iran.

«The continuous increase in the number of cases and the number of countries affected in recent days are clearly worrying,» he said during the press conference he offers daily in Geneva.

The outbreak of the new coronavirus has ended the life of 2,869 at the moment and has left more than 83,700 infected worldwide (2,788 have died in China, which has 78,824 cases). Volume 90%
